For upcoming hybrid rocket testing (Hyb-A-1), the paraffin rocket motor was secured to a test stand using two clamps and the nitrous oxide cartridge was weighed prior to the test.
A 0.25″ diameter, 12″ long drill bit was inserted through the existing holes in the forward landing gear bulkhead and, using the inside plywood corners as guides, 0.25″ holes were drilled through the hard points in the aft bulkhead. The 8″ x 8″ squares were knocked out and glue scraped off of the bulkheads.
Workshop temperature was 25 deg C and 47% humidity. 15g Resin was mixed with 6g hardner and flox. Flox was applied to all mating surfaces between the fuselage sides and the front landing gear bulkhead. The bulkhead was positioned in place, and centerline verified. It was blocked into position and left to cure.
Today two small solid rocket motors were manufactured. These motors will be used for initial proof of concept ground testing (Hyb-A-1). The purpose of this initial testing is to gain basic skills and knowledge associated with handling N2O and paraffin by demonstrating the combustion reaction between this oxidizer and fuel.
