Cozy Experimental Aircraft Update – March 17, 2017

Verified that the 0.25″ drill bit touches both pieces of wood when pushed through the 0.25″ hole in each of the forward landing gear bulkhead hardpoints. This ensures that the front and aft landing gear bulkhead holes will be aligned once the aft bulkhead holes are drilled.

Removed the temporary blocks used to position the aft landing gear bulkhead.

Sanded the corners of the aft landing gear bulkhead.

Prepared 2-ply BID cloth tape …. four 2″ strips, 10″ long.  Shop temperature was 25 deg C and humidity was 33%.

Applied the tape to the 4 corners and used peel ply on all edges.

Cozy Experimental Aircraft Update – March 16, 2017

Preparations to install the forward landing gear bulkhead completed.
Four 8″ x 8″ squares were cut out of plywood.
The squares were hot glued to the forward landing gear bulkhead to ensure that it will be located 8″ forward of the aft landing gear bulkhead and to assist in aligning the 0.25″ drilled holes between both landing gear bulkheads.

Cozy Experimental Aircraft Update – March 15, 2017

The recently taped corners of bulkhead F28 were cut and sanded.
A glue gun was used to temporarily position wooden blocks on each fuselage side 5″ from the firewall.  These blocks are used to accurately position the aft landing gear bulkhead.
The aft landing gear bulkhead was sanded to fit and centred in position against the wooden blocks.  This positions the bulkhead exactly 5″ in front of the temporary firewall.
The shop temperature was 25 deg C and the humidity 33%.  A small cup of thick flox was mixed and applied to the locations along the fuselage sides to mate with the sides of the bulkhead.
The bulkhead was positioned and held against the blocks with clamps and supported underneath by blocks.  It’s curing in the workshop overnight at 23 deg C.
