Vipe is the annual Quebec Rocketry club’s summer launch. It takes place near St. Prime QC, Canada and has a ceiling of 12,000′.
It was a mix of sun and light rain on the Saturday (July 13, 2024). Several thunder storm systems passed nearby but fortunately mostly avoided our launch site. The wind was light and variable.
This rocket is a Katana dual deployment. It was a nominal flight to almost 3000′ and both chute’s deployed as planned. The rocket flew on an Aerotech J250W motor. The GPS beacon showed the rocket still on the pad even an hour after launch so the backup RF beacon was used to locate and recover this one.
Next up is a Trident Cluster rocket consisting of three Aerotech G40-10W motors. The target altitude was 3300′. All three motors ignited then shortly after leaving the pad one of the motors suffered a CATastrOphic failure (cato). The rocket did several loops then literally crashed and burned. This one turned out to be quite a crowd pleaser !
All in all a great Canadian Association of Rocketry weekend event put on by the Quebec club !!!
