On April 12th, 1961, history was made when the first human being, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, went into space. Similarly, on April 12th, 1981, the inaugural launch of the Space Shuttle took place. In recognition of these accomplishments, people from all around the world have been celebrating “Yuri’s Night” – a global festival honoring humanity’s past, present, and future in space – for over a decade and a half. https://yurisnight.net/

Beyond Blue Aerospace (BBA) is sponsoring a Yuri’s night event this year. Approximately a dozen local grade 6 children will be participating along with some of their parents. Yuri’s Night at Beyond Blue will start off with a BBQ followed by popcorn and a screening of the movie Hidden Figures in a private hangar. This year’s event is by invitation only. In the future, if there is enough interest, BBA will open the event up to include more people.
The purpose of the event is to share the excitement of spaceflight and get kids excited about STEM.
In 2016, BBA hosted a paper airplane event and in 2017, a model rocket event, which can both be viewed on YouTube using the following links:
